about.
I’m Simon Farrell, the maker behind Burl Studio; a small wood and resin workshop based in Cookham.
Everything I make is created by hand in my home studio, from custom furniture and artwork to one-off electric guitars, all supplied across the UK.
I’m drawn to materials with real character. I work mainly with figured woods such as elm and mappa burl, chosen for their natural movement, grain and imperfections. Each piece starts with the timber itself. I let the wood guide the design, working with its natural story and pairing it with resin to create something modern, tactile and designed to last.
I enjoy working closely with customers, whether that’s someone looking for a statement piece, a designer sourcing something truly bespoke, or someone after a meaningful handmade gift. No two commissions are ever the same, and that’s exactly how I like it.
Burl Studio is about taking time, working honestly with natural materials, and creating pieces that feel personal, individual and made with care, not mass-produced, but thoughtfully crafted from start to finish.
